My idea of the border that separates two countries were in the line of Berlin wall or like the great wall of China. With troops in full gear and machine gun manning the border.
Kids and i decided to explore the area where we stay and we went to 0 avenue. The road that separates Canada from US of A. One side of the road is Canada and the otherside is America. Except for the flags of both countries on either side of the road, no one would know that it is the border. No border patrol. no walls..nothing.. just the normal landscape.
It is weird, almost all the wars were fought because of border disputes. One country attacking another. Yet here you have two countries with a huge border and can respect each other and not create animosity.
The native Indians beleived that they are the guardians/custodians of the land..not the owners. Would we have to fight a war, if we can live and let live? But then again, how would each race show their superiority to the other one? How else can we sustain the economic industries associated with war? What will we do with the soldiers?

The majority over the minority.. it is the same rule everywhere.. In Malaysia, Malay muslims think they are better, there by more powerful/superior than the minority ie the Indians and the Chinese. They have even coined a term” bumiputera”..sons of the soil to claim their inheritance. They have conveniently forgotten about the “orang asli” ie the original people, the real one who has been the sons of the soil before the fake sons of the soil arrived.

Who are Canadians?
The native people arrived from Asia and from Alaska to the Baffin and Somerset islands for whaling activity.
Vikings were here in the 1400 and met the native people.
the Europeans colonization began in 1534 to 1600
French were here and colonized in 1534 to 1602
french and the English fought the war in 1685 to 1763
Britsh North America was established in 1760 to 1830
Japanese skilled boat makers were here too around the same time.

So who does Canada belong to? White man? Native Americans?. No one can answer that. But a white man doesn’t have the right to tell the others how to behave, because he like the others is a visitor to this land. He didn’t just sprout out of the land. he came just like i did..looking for better opportunity. But because he was more powerful, he became superior to the native people and then destroyed their culture. But unlike the past, now I don’t have to allow him to destroy my culture. I am a Malaysian. Will always be a Malaysian. I have a rich heritage and culture and intend to practice my belief here.

One Candian wrote in the papers that Canadian PR is a privillege( and conveniently forgotten,he himself is a recipent of the so called privillege PR granted to his ancestors!!!!)

Is my PR a privillege granted to me?
Privillege, according to the dictionary is a special benefit, favor or advantage. A privillege isn’t accorded to a cash transaction.When I buy a honda car, The Honda company isn’t going to tell me. it is a privillege. It was my right. i have the money and i buy what I chose to buy.
My PR is a benefit of me paying the application fee, and the landing fee, medcial fee and also bringing in 10000Cad$/person to Canada.I had the money and the education that is required to score enough points to be eligible. I certainly didn’t come here to be told how i should behave, least by someone who became ‘superior’ because he was ahead of me in the race to Canadian citizenship.
We are always trying to tell others what they should do. When do the whole world of homosapiens would learn that we have the same red color blood running through our arterial and venous supply? That it is each to his own, that we don’t have to confirm to the belief of someone to be a part of the society.
And here is to all the Canadians.. I raise my kids as Malaysians( ofcourse in three years they will be Malaysians with a Canadian passport), we celebrate thaipusam, Chinese new year, hari raya, harvest festival,deepavali and Christmas. We have our own idiosyncracies..and so it will be.. Each to his own.

Writer Brabara Yaffe wrote this morning’s Vancouver Sun, Canada should stand up for Taiwan. She wrote although we have trade interests to protect, we also have moral obligation to stand by our values in support of democracy and to promote peace.
I keep hearing about “values”, especially Canadian values.

What would we call the ‘values’ that kept silent for over 50 years, when China invaded TIBET and annexed it as their own? Why wasn’t anyone helped or even send troops to protect Tibet?

Tibet was an independent nation.There are proof that tibetans even invaded china and won the war.During the reign of King Ralpachen (815-36) the Tibetan armies won many victories and in 821-2 a peace treaty was concluded with China. The inscription of the text of the treaty exists in three places: One outside the Chinese Emperor’s palace gate in Ch’ang-an, another before the main gate of Jokhang temple in Lhasa and the third on the Tibetan-China border at Mount Guru Meru
Even the mongolian army when they reached Lhasa, withdrew after the leader Kublai Khan converted to Buddhism. He gave Tibetan king Sakya Phagpa full sovereignty over “the three provinces of Tibet : U-Tsang, Dhotoe and Dhome”.
In 1642, the Fifth Dalai Lama, Ngawang Lozang Gyatso, assumed both spiritual and temporal authority over Tibet. He established the present system of the Tibetan Government, known as the Ganden Phodrang, “Victorious Everywhere”. After becoming the ruler of all Tibet, he set forth to China to demand Chinese recognition of his sovereignty. The Ming Emperor received the Dalai Lama as an independent sovereign and as an equal. It is recorded that he went out of his capital to meet the Dalai Lama and that he had an inclined pathway built over the city wall so that the Dalai Lama could enter Peking without going through a gate
A treaty was signed between Tibet and Great Britain on September 7, 1904. During the British invasion Tibet conducted her affairs as an independent country. Peking did not so much as protest against the British invasion of Tibet.

In January 1913 a bilateral treaty was signed between Tibet and Mongolia at Urga. In that treaty both countries declared themselves free and separate from China
In September 1949, Communist China, without any provocation, invaded Eastern Tibet and captured Chamdo, the headquarters of the Governor of Eastern Tibet. On November 11, 1950, the Tibetan Government protested to the United Nations Organisation against the Chinese aggression. Although El Salvador raised the question, the Steering Committee of the General Assembly moved to postpone the issue.

On November 17, 1950, His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama assumed full spiritual and temporal powers as the Head of State because of the grave crisis facing the country, although he was barely sixteen years old. On May 23, 1951 a Tibetan delegation, which had gone to Peking to hold talks on the invasion, was forced to sign the so-called “17-point Agreement on Measures for the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet”, with threats of more military action in Tibet and by forging the official seals of Tibet.

The Chinese then used this document to carry out their plans to turn Tibet into a colony of China disregarding the strong resistance by the Tibetan people. What is more, the Chinese violated every article of this unequal ‘treaty’ which they had imposed on the Tibetans.

On September 9, 1951 thousands of Chinese troops marched into Lhasa. The forcible occupation of Tibet was marked by systematic destruction of monasteries, suppression of religion, denial of political freedom, widespread arrests and imprisonment and massacre of innocent men, women and children.

On March 10, 1959 the nation-wide Tibetan resistance culminated in the Tibetan National Uprising against the Chinese in Lhasa. The Chinese retaliated with a ruthlessness unknown to the Tibetans. Thousands of men, women and children were massacred in the streets and many more imprisoned and deported. Monks and nuns were a prime target. Monasteries and temples were shelled.

On March 17, 1959 the Dalai Lama left Lhasa and escaped from the pursuing Chinese to seek political asylum in India. He was followed by unprecedented exodus of Tibetans into exile. Never before in their history had so many Tibetans been forced to leave their homeland under such difficult circumstances. There are now more than one hundred thousand Tibetan refugees all over the world.

Taiwan.history
1624 and 1662, Taiwan was under Dutch rule.. Then it didn’t belong to any country, just a land occupied by aborigenes and traders. In 1887 Ching Dynasty annexed Taiwan to Manchu empire
In 1895 Treaty of Shimonoseki, in which China ceded its sovereignty over Taiwan in perpetuity. The Treaty was signed in April 1895, at the end of the Sino-Japanese War of 1894, in which the modernized Japanese imperial army defeated the antiquated Chinese Ching dynasty army.

Tibet was never part of China, however Taiwan was and in fact 100 years ago China gave up Tibet to the Japanese.

It irkes me, when western writers write article to gain cheap publicity and mileage and speak about democracy and moral obligation. What moral obligation can we speak, when we have been silently watching the atrocities committed on Tibetans and still wanting to stand up for Taiwan?
Whern I asked the author the same question she wrote
“let me get your point straight. It’s not legitimate to speak out on behalf
of Taiwan, which is in the news now, because I am not at the same time
writing about Tibet?
Get serious”
Ofcourse she can speak for the Taiwanese. But What moral right does one have to speak about oppression and democracy and how Canada should act, when all these while no one bothered about the right of Tibetans to have democracy and freedom from oppression? What isn’t good for Taiwanese shouldn’t be different for Tibetans? ISn’t what isn’t good for goose is also not good for gander?

When I told my family that I am moving to Vancouver, my mother who lives in Auckland was too shocked to speak sensibly. Her first response “isn’t Canada under ice all the time? Isn’t Eskimos still live in Igloo there? Do you really want to be eaten by bears?
Then she asked me, Why can’t you move to Auckland, at least itsn’t as cold and you don’t have to ice fish and live in an Igloo.
After watching the Vancouver olympic presentation at the Tourino olympics finale(hopefully mother didn’t watch) Where they presented, ice fishing and inukshuk construction with ice blocks!!!

I learned..I alone will never be able to change the myth perpetuated by the tourism industry of Canada or by who ever that has an imagination + creativity overdrive.

The myth about Canada being too cold and primitive.. About eskimo(inuit) and igloo.

How can I explain to someone that i haven’t seen a single igloo till now, buy my fish at the supermarket and haven’t yet seen a bear..

How can I explain to someone who hasn’t been to Canada that, this is the most beautiful place(ok lah not as beautiful as Tambunan and Messilau in Sabah, but still beautiful) on plant earth.. That it is developed nation, we have hot water and electricity.. People are environmentally friendly and the tress are still there in the forest(unlike Malaysia, where Malaysian timber is now seen in the Mugabe mansion..as gift from one crooked prime minister to another ofcourse)

If my mom indeed watched the Torino presentation, I will direct her call to the VANOC CEO.. He better explain it to her, where he left/lost his brain.

The editorial article in this morning’s Vancouver Sun is about making the immigrants take an oath that they completely embrace Canadian values or they be told to leave Canada.

The same White Canadians who decided that only the medical degrees from white countries(AKA former british colonies) are recognized in Canada..like those from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa can freely practice medicine in Canada and while brandishing the rest of us as quacks.
The same white Canadians who employ nurses as doctors masquerading under the title of nurse practitioners, when there is an absolute shortage of doctors
The same white Canadians, who won’t grant chocolate factory employees from third world countries permanent residency, while expecting doctors and engineers to work in their chocolate factories
The same white Canadians who won’t grant Professional engineer status to immigrant engineers till they get minimum one year Canadian experience.. The clause soley designed to ensure that immigrant engineers never get a job..no PE..No engineering job, No Canadian experience, NO PE..
The same white Canadians who destroyed the whole lot of native Indian culture and now telling the immigrant to take an oath “Swearing that they are not only fully committed to Canadian values and will give their complete allegiance and loyalty to Canada, lest they be removed from Canada.”
That is called audacity my brothers.. Nothing but sheer audacity.
Oh i forgot.. What exactly is Canadian values? Taking native children from their families and placing them in residential schools to make them a better Canadian?
