Live..

My neighbour went for a cruise few weeks ago and she won the award for best dressed.

Why is that a big news you might ask. Well, it is a big news because she is in her mid 70’s, born with congenital hip dislocation and her last hip surgery failed 2 weeks before her cruise and she  could only walk using crutches (and is in so much pain). But the cruise was already paid for and her doctor told her to enjoy her holidays and he will fit in her for her surgery when she returns. So she went, crutches and all..The pain and the disability didn’t stop her from being the best..even among the able bodied.

My mother had tons of sarees..and all my childhood I remember her wearing the same old brown saree with a cream blouse. The blouse and the saree didn’t match. My father always brought matching blouse fabric with the sarees and we had a family tailor. Yet my mother never wore a decent saree with a matching blouse in her life.

I have never understood why mother chose to dress up shabbily, even when she had sarees..May be her martyr role was only complete if she dressed the part. But every time I see my neighbour.. I think of my mother..and I wish if only she really lived at least one day of her life.
