Deadlines…

When I was living in UK ( 1995), I met a mallu doctor at a dinner party. She had just come back from a trip to US and was talking about Grand Canyon. I had no idea what Grand Canyon was, so I asked ” What is Grand Canyon?” There was a pin drop silence in the room. Apparently I was the only 24 year old on planet earth who has never heard of Grand Canyon.

And Grand Canyon became a part of my must do list. Kathleen Noonan wrote recently “In life, we work to deadlines, most of us. Yet, no matter how silver-tongued we are, there is one deadline we can’t talk ourselves out of. On the day we die, what is not ticked off the must -do list will remain not ticked off, The deadline will arrive.

Kids and I are leaving next week for a 6 weeks vacation to US. Funds are limited and I have no idea how much this trip is going to cost me. Apart from visiting the ivy league colleges on west coast  and east, a trip to Disneyland and then the grand canyon, I have no idea where I am going. I have hired a car.. After grand Canyon, I might head to Mexico and then fly to NY and  from there to .Boston..New Orleans..ah the list is endless and madness too for wanting to visit east coast during winter 🙂

“Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road,
Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose.
Henceforth I ask not good-fortune, I myself am good-fortune,
Henceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing,
Done with indoor complaints, libraries, querulous criticisms,
Strong and content I travel the open road.” ( Walt Whitman)
As they say, it is the journey, not the destination that matters. I look forward to spending time with my kids, explore new places, learn new things and create new memories.
As for the blog, I am hoping to do a photo blog of the places we visit.. but then again I hate taking photos and have to rely on Yaya’s goodwill.
Wishing you all in  advance a Merry Christmas and a very happy new year..
Until we meet again….
Love
Sarah

  1. Oh Wow!! Happy Journey!! I need to take lessons from you on how you managed to get 6 weeks off from work and school!

Hope this is a joyous trip!!

    • MS: Mandatory shutdown from 23rd until 5th, plus me willing to take unpaid leave, plus me having to study and submit assignments while I am away..
I hope this will be a great trip.. I miss loooooooong drives and finding new places. I was hoping to read and find out where to go and what to do, haven’t had the time. So after finishing Disney, then to grand canyon and then I am just driving where the road takes me and then in mid December I will head to NY..

  2. I live in the East Coast….in Virginia…15mins from Washington DC…you are welcome to be our guest…We will be away from Dec 2nd -5th…..but the rest of the time we are here….so if you need a night’s stay or a home made meal please drop by….

    • Joan: Seriously, why would having an Aussie license and driving in US a big deal? Why wouldn’t I be allowed to drive in US with my Aussie license? Technically, I should have an International driving permit, which is just a translation of the original language on the license from whatever it is to English. But in my case my Australian license is in English and so far I was never asked for a International driving permit in US and have hired cars using my Aussie license.

  3. I figure you tight rope walking across Grand Canyon with your three kids beating Nik Wallenda!

Enjoy well the trip. Take video of the whole trip in a professional style, like a movie ( we can give it in the Malayalm channel Safari, I will do the Malayalam commentary).

After travelling so far you may reach a new continent. We expect discovery of some new land!

    Best wishes.
